CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – Barangay Pagas, the 2019 Regional Gawad Kalasag awardee, soon to open the first barangay quarantine facility in Cabanatuan City.

The localized isolation facility made from 40-foot-long customized container vans divided into two rooms includes personal toilets, beds, refrigerators, television and air-conditioner.

Currently, Barangay Pagas has only one active COVID-19 positive out of 417 confirmed cases in Cabanatuan City, according to Cabanatuan City Information and Tourism Office.

Under the Republic Act 11469 or the “Bayanihan To Heal as One Act” of 2020, the government must sustain effort to isolate and treat COVID-19 cases to reduce transmission of the disease and prevent deaths.

According to Barangay Secretary Jennifer Magsakay, the project had been set as a model facility among all the 89 barangays in Cabanatuan City.

“Tayo ang unang nakapagpatayo nito sa Cabanatuan. Dahil dito, natuwa si [Mayor Myca Vergara] at nag-offer siya na kung sinong barangay ang gusto ring magkaroon ng sariling isolation facility ay sumulat lang kay Mayora.” Magsakay said.

Magsakay added that Cabanatuan City government would provide container vans and other amenities only to barangays that could submit a resolution, deed of land donation, and shoulder the labor costs.
